InterAction of Bath's Safety Cases: Biometric identity verification |
| The biometric identity verification system (BIV) uses commercial off the shelf (COTS) components
to register and later verify biometric data, including fingerprints. Designed for deployment in the field, the system is fully portable and consists of three parts:
registration workstation, verification workstation, and central server (on which data is stored and updated). The BIV was an urgent operational requirement, so the safety case was
completed rapidly.
In the case of COTS products it is important to demonstrate that the choice of equipment took account of its operational safety and minimised environmental damage from manufacture and disposal. The equipment is now deployed at military camps overseas to bolster security and track the movement of locally employed personnel. |
