Human Computer Interaction

Computer systems are a natural focus for Human Factors. The EU regulations for Display Screen Equipment must be met for all computer workstations - and that includes ensuring full compliance with ergonomic standards. Our experience of Human-Computer Interaction has been gained from innovative work in large control systems and the Defence Industry. We are familiar with Unix, Vax/VMS and PC platforms. We can program in Visual-BASIC, VB.NET, FORTRAN, SWEPSPEED, TurboPASCAL, DCL, SQL, cutlass and html. The services we offer include: User trials with prototype interfaces Hardware design - devices and workspaces Software development - rapid prototyping in a variety of languages Dialogue design - supporting error-correction and prompting Development of information navigation techniques User Manuals - design and authoring We also have extensive knowledge of the rapidly developing field of Automatic Speech Recognition. Our equipment and software are available to build trial applications to assess the usability of speech as an input medium. Users are the key to successful software ergonomics. We gather information about user requirements and liaise with the system designers to ensure that the final system is both fully functional and usable. Most recently we completed assessments of the interfaces for London Underground and EDS Defence.
